ABOUT ABOUT

This summer will mark the 50th anniversary of Israel's astonishing victory in the Six Day War, which returned Jerusalem to Jewish hands and brought Israeli control over hundreds of thousands of Palestinian lives. In the time since, the Israel Defense Forces, which once fought foreign enemy armies, turned its attention to the day-to-day lives of the Arab populations in the West Bank and Gaza. How has this situation, which all sides describe as untenable, continued for nearly five decades, and what is the Israel Defenses Forces' role in maintaining it?

The Times of Israel's military correspondent Judah Ari Gross will explore these questions, shed light on the lesser known aspects of life in the West Bank, and address some of the misunderstandings and confusion surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Gross studied journalism at the University of Maryland before moving to Israel in 2011. After two years in the Israel Defense Forces, he began working at the Times of Israel, first as a general assignments reporter, and now as the website's military correspondent, writing about issues of defense and the inner workings of Israel's security services.
